Itchy Scalp? Treating Your Scalp For Common Skin Conditions At Home

Posted on

Psoriasis, dandruff, and dermatitis are all common and uncomfortable conditions that can make your skin itch and feel dry. Each is slightly different, so you need to treat the conditions in different ways. Here's how to treat them at home, naturally.

How to Treat Psoriasis At Home

If you've noticed red, flaky patches on your scalp and skin, psoriasis may be the cause. The condition is an autoimmune disorder, which means there's no cure.

Despite this, there is one treatment you can grab out of your kitchen at any time. That treatment is olive oil.

Olive oil has many benefits for the skin, but for psoriasis, it helps lock in moisture and provides nutrients that your skin needs. Simply massage the oil into your scalp and allow it to soak into the skin. The next time you have a shower, the plagues that have built up will be looser and more likely to shed.

If this doesn't help though, don't be afraid to seek out more information from a doctor like Henry D. McKinney M.D.

How to Treat Dandruff At Home

Dandruff is something most people deal with at some point in their lives. The dry skin of the scalp starts to shed, causing white flakes to gather in the hair and to fall out onto your clothing, especially on your shoulders. Sometimes, dandruff is caused by an overgrowth of malassezia, which is a kind of fungus.

To treat dandruff at home, try using baking soda. All you need to do is get a handful of the baking soda wet before rubbing it into the scalp. Over time, this reduces the fungi and helps relieve your dandruff. Your hair may feel dry during the treatments, but give them time; you'll soon find your hair feels softer and that you're not suffering from patches of dandruff any longer.

How to Treat Seborrhoeic Dermatitis At Home

Similar to dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis causes scaling on the scalp. It is closer to eczema, because it causes a rash-like condition, but it's caused by blocked and over-productive oil glands. Babies who get this condition are said to have cradle cap

To treat this condition, try using tea tree oil to loosen the scales on the rash. Simply rub the oil into the scalp when you wash your hair and let it set for a few minutes. Wash it out, and you should feel a tingling sensation on the skin. This is caused by the pores being opened by the oil, allowing oxygen to get to the clogged pores.

These are a few possible treatments for your skin conditions. If these don't help, make sure you speak with your doctor.
