Tips For Sticking To Any Weight-Loss Plan

Posted on

People often assume that if they choose the right weight-loss plan, they'll have an easier time sticking to it. This is true to a certain degree. A weight-loss plan formulated by a doctor or dietitian is less likely to be deficient in calories or certain nutrients, and it's easier to stick to a plan that's not deficient. However, most people do still have some struggles in sticking to any weight-loss plan — even the best plans. Here are some tips to help you stay the course, keep your intake in check, and see results.

Be honest with any practitioners and with your friends and family members.

When you are enrolled in a weight-loss program led by a doctor or other medical professional, make sure you are honest. Tell your doctor if you're having trouble sticking with the plan; they may be able to make some changes to the plan or offer specific advice. Be honest with your friends and family members about what you are pursuing, too. This way, they'll be able to offer you backup and support, rather than unknowingly offering you cookies.

Put reminders of your goals around your home.

If you always keep in mind why you're trying to lose the weight, you'll stay more motivated to stick to the plan. Write down your goals and dreams on post-it notes, and place them throughout your home. For instance, you can write specific goals like being able to put on your jeans from college or being able to play with your child without feeling out of breath, and you can place these goals in highly visible locations. Every time you see one of these reminders, you'll be less inclined to cheat on your diet or skip a workout.

Make choices that feel good.

Wherever your weight-loss plan leaves room for customization, make sure you customize it in a way that will make you feel good. For example, if your plan calls for you to do 30 minutes of cardio four days a week, choose cardio you enjoy, such as walking the dog, rather than cardio you find grueling. If your plan recommends eating a serving of veggies at lunchtime, pick a veggie you actually enjoy, not one that makes you gag.

Sticking to any weight-loss plan can be tough, but you just have to take it one day at a time and follow the tips above. Good luck, and keep pushing on!
